Adventures

‘Let us step into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure’

I travelled a little pre-kids, a very little. The two biggest trips were a 9 week solo trip through Australia right after uni, and then Alan and I did a wee train adventure through Europe, ticking off Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Venice, Verona, Trieste and Zadar. There was also the infamous New York trip during uni when a friend and I signed up for a ‘free’ trip, as long as we raised £2k for charity…oh and ran the New York Marathon. That’s a story for another time!

So when we decided we were going to start a family I kind of thought that would be it for the travelling. Not so!

I’d been reluctant to write about any of our family trips because I felt that maybe they weren’t exciting enough or we hadn’t done enough. But how silly is that. New places and experiences are exciting, no matter whether they’re closer to home or further afield, whether they’re on a long backpacking trip or a short break, a caravan, lodge or luxury hotel!

As a family we are ticking off the UK slowly but surely, with trips throughout Scotland, the Lake District, Northumberland, Nottingham, Cornwall and Wales under our belt. There’s also been trips to the South of France, Lake Garda (Italy), Xabia (Spain) and Disneyland Paris. And we’re about to embark on our first long haul trip this summer with a couple of weeks in Ontario, Canada.

I’ve also managed to squeeze in a couple of trips sans children (post coming soon about why you should leave your parent guilt at home and take that trip) to Barcelona, Budapest and Vienna, with more in the pipeline.

We’re not the most well-travelled family you’ll come across, but we are going to new places, seeing new things and doing it in a way that we can (within our budget) and love.

I’ll be writing posts on all of our trips over the coming months, even if some are about 2 years behind schedule, so watch this space.
